The Calle Marlena Residence is a 3,800 sq. ft. modern beach house located in San Clemente California. The goal of this project was to reinvent an existing 1970s home into a modern, open concept floor plan which maximized the ocean view and integrated indoor-outdoor living. This was accomplished by reorganizing the architecture and adding large openings in combination with pocketing door systems that allow walls to disappear creating multiple exterior courtyards that become an extension of the indoor environment. We selected natural materials to finish the building such as wood, copper, stucco and different types of stone. The combination of these materials was carefully chosen to create a Modern Organic Architecture. Our goal was to utilize natural finishes, in a modern context, to create an environment that felt warm, inviting and cozy.
